About Coach Chad
Chad Allen is a Dallas native and hitting coach at Dallas Performance Systems. He played at Duncanville High School and Texas A&M (1994–1996), then spent a decade in professional baseball before nearly ten years as a minor-league hitting coach in the Twins and Cubs organizations.
Born in Dallas on February 6, 1975, Allen was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds out of Duncanville in 1993 but chose college. The Minnesota Twins took him in the fourth round in 1996. That summer, he played for Team USA and won a bronze medal at the Atlanta Olympics.
He reached the majors in 1999 as the Twins’ Opening Day left fielder and hit .277 with 10 home runs and 14 stolen bases in 137 games. Over seven MLB seasons (1999–2005) with the Twins, Cleveland, Florida, and the Texas Rangers, he batted .269 with 14 home runs and 84 RBI in 267 games. He later played in Japan with the Orix Buffaloes in 2007.
Allen returned to the Twins as a hitting coach from 2013 to 2018, working at Double-A New Britain, Double-A Chattanooga, and Triple-A Rochester, plus the Arizona Fall League. He moved to the Cubs organization in 2019 as hitting coach for the Double-A Tennessee Smokies and stayed through 2021 (and into early 2022) before coming back to Dallas youth and high school baseball. He now works with hitters at DPS and is available by appointment only.
